Noticing Signs of Needed Automotive Repair?
It’s been reported by mechanics that they see cars brought in that have not been serviced at the appropriate intervals as frequently as recommended. If you start thinking about all the cars on the road, you wonder how many may need some form of automotive repair. Do you really want to get out on the road? Without reminders, it’s easy to forget how many miles it was since that last oil change, or if it is time to rotate the tires, or is it time to change the air filter.
Signs of needed automotive repair:
- Dashboard warning lights. Pay attention to your car's on-board diagnostic system. Flashing or blinking lights on the dash panel indicate a potential problem or just a faulty sensor.
- Oil spots under the car. The oil filter or drain plug may not have been tightened correctly at the last oil change, or it could actually be an oil leak from a compromised gasket in the engine.
- Greenish fluid under the car. Radiator fluid could be leaking from a bad fitting on a hose or from a more major issue such as a cracked radiator. This could result in an overheating engine, resulting in permanent engine damage.
- Noisy Brakes. When brake pads have worn too thin, they will start to make a high-pitch squeal or squeak. If the rotors, calipers, and discs become worn out, you could start to hear metal-on-metal grinding sounds.
- Rumbling or sputtering from beneath the car. Louder than normal sounds from the muffler usually indicate a problem with the exhaust system, such as a hole in the muffler or a bad catalytic converter.
- Chirping or screeching from under the hood. The drive belt (also known as the serpentine belt) that directs engine power to accessory systems, will become frayed and brittle over time, eventually breaking if not replaced at the proper interval.
- Humming, growling, or roaring from the tires. Tires that are “out of round”, the tread is too thin, or a bad wheel bearing will make unusual sounds when driving down the road.
Remember: Take care of the recommended automotive service items so that the lack of maintenance doesn’t turn into major automotive repair issues, costing more than the service would have cost.
